As part of our commitment to excellence, we are excited to announce that ChoralSong will be hosting Dr. David Farwig to present a clinic entitled “The Choral Art” at 6:45pm on April 16th at First Lutheran Church here in Colorado Springs. The clinic will include training vocalists how to “Sing on the Breath,” a discussion about the requirements of a professional chorister, and a rehearsal focused on applying those principles.
In addition to earning Masters and Doctoral Degrees in Choral Conducting from the DU Lamont School of Music and the UMKC Conservatory of Music respectively, David has performed as guest vocalist and clinician with a variety of professional ensembles, including the Santa Fe Desert Chorale, The U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants (D.C.), and St. Martin’s Chamber Choir (Denver, CO). In addition to his work as a choral conductor, Dr. Farwig is a professional concert vocalist, engaging in solo and choral performances throughout the United States and Europe with organizations such as The U.S. Air Force Singing Sergeants (D.C.); the Carmel (CA), Oregon, and Victoria Bach Festivals (TX); the Santa Fe Opera and Santa Fe Symphony (NM); the Baroque Chamber Orchestra of Colorado; The Colorado Bach Ensembleand St. Martin’s Chamber Choir (CO); Choral Arts Northwest (WA); Seraphic Fire (FL); and True Concord Voices and Orchestra (AZ).
Dr. Farwig was honored with the prestigious Austin Critics Table award in Austin, Texas for his solo performances in Samuel Barber’s The Lovers, recorded by the Grammy®-winning professional ensemble, Conspirare, on the Harmonia Mundi label. Other acclaimed recording projects include John Michael Trotta’s The Seven Last Words of Christ, Robert Kyr’s A Time for Life and Songs of the Soul & Cloud of Unknowing, the last of which was voted as one of NPR’s top new recordings.
