Our Spring concert opens with a collection of a cappella pieces designed to capture the crisp, pure beauty of the northern lights in sound. The highlight of this section is a stunning work by Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo appropriately entitled Northern Lights, encompassed by a collection of works by John Shepherd, Gabriel Fauré and William Harris.
The concert then continues with a toe-tapping collection of ancient songs entitled Medieval Summer Nights. After a suite of early Disney songs that children of all ages will know and love, we’ll present an assortment of soft jazz works that will make anyone long for the hazy days of summer. In closing, we are thrilled to perform an outstanding major work by Libby Larsen designed to recreate the days of the American pioneers. With movements entitled “Comin’ to Town”, “Beneath These Alien Stars,” and “The Hoopla!”, The Settling Years is sure to send you out the door with a smile on your face!
